Information about the Barefoot Trail in Lienen

The Barefoot Trail in Lienen was built in the spring of 2002. Conception and planning were carried out by the Marketing Association of Lienen , with villagers and local businesses providing the manpower on an entirely voluntary basis.

The beginning and end of the Barefoot Trail are right beside the village pond and opposite the Tourist Information office in the "House of Guests".

Next to the Kneipp water treading basin there are water posts where you can wash your feet after your walk while sitting on comfortable wooden benches. There are also lockers for your shoes, which you can use for a donation of just one Euro.

The Kneipp water treading basin gives you the chance to start your barefoot walk with a stimulating water treading exercise (3 minutes recommended). Afterwards simply follow the signposted trail which is 1 m wide and 1.6 miles (2.5 km) long. The trail takes you through a brook and a water meadow, along fields, pastures and paddocks and back to the starting point.

While walking barefoot you will quickly develop a sense for the different surfaces over which you are walking – limestone, bark mulch, crushed stones, sand, grass, timber, paving and pebbles. So don't hesitate: Off with your shoes and into the perfect pleasures of nature!

The main park area by the pond also includes a marvelous water playground for the youngest visitors to the Barefoot Trail. Here your children can play with pumps and sluices, enjoying the fun of slushing in sand and water from dawn till dusk.

After your visit to the Barefoot Trail why not treat yourself to a spot of peaceful shopping and experience the warm welcome in our restaurants & pubs .

The Barefoot Trail season starts on the 1st of May and ends with a Halloween Party on the 31st of October. During this period the Barefoot Trail is open daily (except The Bombeiros Weekend ).

On full moon nights, special guided torch walks along the Barefoot Trail offer an enchanting spectacle.

Further information is available at the local Tourist Information Office (phone: +49 5483 724010) and in local restaurants and hotels.

Visits to the Barefoot Trail are free of charge!
